UNSC Releases Fresh Statement against N. Korea after Revision

New York, April 20 (Jiji Press)--The U.N. Security Council on Thursday released a fresh press statement against North Korea, after making a revision that was demanded by Russia and eventually accepted by the United States.
In the statement, the members of the council "strongly condemned" North Korea's ballistic missile firing on Sunday and demanded that the reclusive country "conduct no further nuclear tests."
Expressing their "utmost concern" over North Korea's "highly destabilizing behavior and flagrant and provocative defiance of the Security Council," the statement said the powerful U.N. organ will closely monitor the situation and take "further significant measures, including sanctions" against Pyongyang.
It also emphasized "the vital importance" of North Korea "immediately showing sincere commitment to denuclearization" while stressing the need to work to reduce tensions on the Korean Peninsula and beyond.
The statement's initial draft failed to be adopted on Wednesday due to Russia's opposition although all 14 other members, including China, supported it.
