(Update) Panel Final Report Seeks National Debate on Decreasing Imperial Family Members

Tokyo, April 21 (Jiji Press)--A Japanese government panel of specialists submitted a final report to Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Friday, seeking national discussions on the declining number of Imperial Family members.
"The drop in the number of the Imperial Family members is an issue that cannot be postponed," the panel said in the report.
The report underlined the need to promptly consider ways to resolve the issue, calling on the government and the public to start discussions.
The report, adopted at a meeting held at the prime minister's office, included proposals on a post-abdication Imperial system.
The panel specifically said that the title "Joko Heika" should be used for the Emperor if he hands over the Imperial throne to Crown Prince Naruhito.
