(Update) Japan Honors Shogi Master Habu, Go Champ Iyama
Tokyo, Feb. 13 (Jiji Press)--The Japanese government on Tuesday gave the People's Honor Award to 47-year-old shogi master Yoshiharu Habu and Yuta Iyama, a 28-year-old champion of the board game go.
Prime Minister Shinzo Abe presented diplomas and plaques to Habu and Iyama at the award ceremony at the prime minister's office.
Habu and Iyama have "made historic achievements that gave dreams and excitement to many Japanese people, and hopes and courage to society," Abe said.
It marked the first time for a shogi or go player to receive the honor.
Among participants at the ceremony were people from the shogi and go worlds and Habu's eldest daughter.
