Japan Nov. Pay Up 1.1 Pct, 1st Rise in 4 Months

Tokyo, Jan. 9 (Jiji Press)--Japan's price-adjusted pay index rose 1.1 pct from a year earlier in November, up for the first time in four months, a labor ministry survey showed on Wednesday.
The average monthly pay increased 2.0 pct to 283,607 yen, or about 2,600 dollars.
Of the total, basic pay and other fixed items were up 1.6 pct, and overtime and other non-fixed items up 1.1 pct. Special pay including bonuses jumped 9.7 pct.
Subject to the national survey are all companies with 500 or more workers, but it was revealed in December that the survey had covered only about a third of those in Tokyo.
In the November report, the ministry noted that it is investigating the impact of the irregularities on survey results.
