Swine Fever Confirmed in More Prefectures in Japan

Nagoya, Feb. 6 (Jiji Press)--Pigs at a farm in the city of Toyota, Aichi Prefecture, central Japan, have tested positive for swine fever, the agriculture ministry said Wednesday.
The infections were confirmed in a detailed test, after infections were suspected at the farm.
Swine fever outbreaks were also confirmed at farms in the prefectures of Nagano, Gifu, Shiga and Osaka, to which pigs had been shipped from the Toyota farm for breeding, according to the ministry.
The developments came after the first swine fever outbreak in Japan in 26 years was confirmed at a pig farm in Gifu, which borders Aichi, last September.
The swine fever virus detected at the Toyota farm is the same type as that found in Gifu, the ministry said.
