Real Wages in Japan Up 0.2 Pct in 2018

Tokyo, Feb. 8 (Jiji Press)--Real wages in Japan in 2018 rose 0.2 pct from the previous year on average, up for the first time in two years, the labor ministry said in a preliminary report on Friday.
Nominal wages per worker grew 1.4 pct to 323,669 yen on average, up for the fifth straight year, the ministry said.
The rosy results chiefly reflected wage increases at wholesalers and retailers, as well as the construction, transportation and postal service industries, which face labor shortages.
In December last year, nominal wages rose 1.8 pct from a year before to 567,151 yen. Real wages were up 1.4 pct.
