Real Wages in Japan Up 1.1 Pct in Jan.

Tokyo, March 8 (Jiji Press)--Real wages in Japan in January grew 1.1 pct from a year before, gaining ground for the third straight month, the labor ministry said Friday.
Nominal wages per worker also rose 1.2 pct to 277,001 yen, up for the 18th consecutive month, the ministry said in a preliminary report.
In 2018, wage data came out relatively strong because the ministry changed the survey methodology. The January data are not affected by this problem as the ministry used the same methods as last year.
Regular pay grew 0.6 pct to 243,298 yen, and special pay, including bonuses, surged 12.7 pct to 14,459 yen.
Meanwhile, nonregular pay, such as overtime, fell 1.0 pct to 19,244 yen.
