Japan's Current Account Surplus Up 1.4 Pct in Jan.

   Tokyo, March 8 (Jiji Press)--Japan's current account surplus in January rose 1.4 pct from a year before to 600.4 billion yen, the Ministry of Finance said Friday.
   The result came against the median forecast of 220.1 billion yen among the 18 economic research institutes surveyed by Jiji Press.
   Japan logged a goods and services trade deficit of 1,116 billion yen against the year-before deficit of 823.8 billion yen, the ministry said in a preliminary balance of payments report.
   In goods trade, Japan's deficit totaled 964.8 billion yen, up from 660.7 billion yen. Exports slid 6.7 pct to 5,816.9 billion yen, and imports were down 1.7 pct at 6,718.8 billion yen.
   The surplus on the primary income account expanded 15.1 pct to 1,759.2 billion yen.
