Japan Household Spending Up 2.0 Pct in Jan.

   Tokyo, March 8 (Jiji Press)--Japanese household spending in January rose 2.0 pct from a year before in price-adjusted real terms, marking the second consecutive month of growth, the internal affairs ministry said Friday.
   The result reflected robust spending linked to home renovation and automobiles.
   Consumption expenditures by households with two or more members averaged 296,345 yen.
   Consumers may be feeling the need to finish home renovation and car repair before the consumption tax hike from 8 pct to 10 pct in October, according to the ministry.
   The ministry revised up its basic assessment of household spending for the first time in five months, saying it is showing moves of a pickup. Last month, the ministry saw signs of stalling.
