Takagi Sets 1,500-Meter Speed Skating World Record

Salt Lake City, March 10 (Jiji Press)--Japan's Miho Takagi set a new world record for women's 1,500-meter speed skating in a World Cup event in Salt Lake City, Utah, on Sunday.
She won the event with a time of one minute and 49.83 seconds, breaking the previous record of one minute and 50.85 seconds marked by Heather Bergsma of the United States in 2015.
"I'm happy that I became a world record holder and that I could exert all my strength in the race," Takagi, 24, said.
"Although I'm very happy, I must not feel fulfilled," she also said. "I want to keep pursuing."
In the 2018 Pyeongchang Olympics in South Korea, Takagi won the gold medal in the team pursuit, silver in the 1,500-meter event and bronze in the 1,000-meter event.
