Japan Increasing Pressure on S. Korea over Wartime Labor

Tokyo, March 13 (Jiji Press)--The Japanese government is increasing pressure on South Korea by warning of specific retaliatory measures against the seizure of a Japanese company's assets in the neighboring country in a wartime labor lawsuit.
The government wants to protect Japanese companies in such suits from incurring damage from asset seizures and urge South Korea to take proper measures.
But retaliation would draw a backlash from South Korea, possibly leading to tit-for-tat exchanges of punitive measures between the two countries.
In a meeting of the House of Representatives Financial Affairs Committee on Tuesday, Finance Minister Taro Aso named additional tariffs, money transfer suspension and a halt to visa issuance as possible retaliatory measures.
"We are negotiating before taking such measures," Aso said.
