Pope's Japan Visit Sched. to Be Announced as Early as June

Nagasaki, March 14 (Jiji Press)--Japan's Cardinal Manyo Maeda said Thursday that the schedule of Pope Francis's first-ever visit to Japan is expected to be formally announced between late June and early July.
Maeda showed this view during a meeting with Nagasaki Governor Hodo Nakamura at the prefectural government office in the western Japan city of Nagasaki.
According to Maeda, the pope is considering making a four-day trip to Japan around Nov. 25 and visiting chiefly Tokyo, Nagasaki and Hiroshima. A Vatican official will come to the country in June to work out places the pope will visit and events he will attend.
Meanwhile, the Catholic Church in Japan plans to request the pope hold a Mass in the capital and Nagasaki.
At a meeting with Maeda and others in December last year, the pope expressed intention to deliver a message from Nagasaki calling for abolishing nuclear weapons.
