Justice Min. Acts on More Sexual Harassment Cases in 2018

Tokyo, March 15 (Jiji Press)--Sexual harassment-related human rights violations for which the Justice Ministry started remedial procedures in 2018 totaled 410 cases, up 35.3 pct from the previous year, the ministry said Friday.
The global #MeToo movement may have encouraged sexual harassment victims in Japan to speak up, contributing to the sharp rise, a ministry official said.
The number of sexual harassment-related complaints filed with the ministry totaled 1,413 cases in the reporting year.
For the 410 cases, the ministry took such actions as introducing the victims to local labor standards inspection offices and contacts within companies.
In 2018, the ministry started remedial procedures for a total of 19,063 cases of human rights violations, down 2.4 pct.
