Japan Govt Calls for Employment of Elderly until Age of 70

Tokyo, May 15 (Jiji Press)--The Japanese government showed on Wednesday plans to increase opportunities for elderly people to work until they reach the age of 70.
The plans were presented at a meeting of the council on investment for the future, headed by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
The government will ask companies to make efforts to secure employment for workers up to the age of 70, through a host of options such as continued employment after reaching retirement age, support in finding new jobs at other firms, financial assistance for freelance contracts and entrepreneurship support.
The government aims to introduce a bill to revise the law for stabile employment for elderly people at next year's regular session of the Diet, Japan's parliament.
The government will not make the string of measures mandatory under the revised law, but will consider making it so in the future, sources said.
