Japan's Producer Prices Up 1.2 Pct in April

Tokyo, May 16 (Jiji Press)--Japan's producer price index for April rose 1.2 pct from a year before to 101.8 against 100 for the base year of 2015, up for the 28th straight month, the Bank of Japan said in a preliminary report Thursday.
The growth reflects expectations of progress in U.S.-China trade negotiations and higher crude oil prices in international markets.
By product, prices of petroleum and coal products grew 4.2 pct on the back of higher crude oil prices.
Prices of pulp and paper as well as products made of them rose 5.2 pct thanks to increasing demand for cardboard boxes used for the delivery of products bought in online shopping.
Steel prices increased 1.6 pct because of robust domestic demand, while nonferrous metal prices fell 2.7 pct.
