Japan Panel Calls for Promoting Digital Tech-Based Education

Tokyo, June 6 (Jiji Press)--A Japanese government panel submitted to Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Thursday its proposals, including a call for preparing an environment for education utilizing digital technologies at all elementary, junior high and high schools in the nation within five years.
The Council for Promotion of Regulatory Reform called for enabling each student to use one personal or tablet computer at school as early as possible so that education depending on students' levels of understanding is provided.
"The government will accelerate reforms,"Abe said, upon receiving the package of proposals.
The government plans to adopt a roadmap for the reform measures at a cabinet meeting by the end of this month, aiming to carry them out in stages.
As one of education problems in Japan, the council, headed by Hiroko Ota, professor at the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies, said that schools have been failing to deliver education based on proficiency levels of students.
