Japan, France Back Stronger Nissan-Renault Ties

Tokyo, June 10 (Jiji Press)--Japanese economy minister Hiroshige Seko and his French counterpart, Bruno Le Maire, on Monday confirmed their countries' support for stronger ties between Nissan Motor Co. <7201> and Renault SA.
Seko and Le Maire "reaffirmed the strong support" of the Japanese and French governments for the Nissan-Renault alliance, the two ministers said in a statement.
The ministers also supported the two companies' "sincere discussion to enhance competitiveness" of the Japanese-French alliance and "their shared wish to maintain and reinforce this winning cooperation," according to the statement.
Seko and Le Maire also exchanged views on Italian-U.S. automaker Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV's withdrawal of its proposal to merge with Renault.
Le Maire apparently explained the French government's position in response to allegations of its intervention over the merger proposal.
