Abe, Trump Confirm Cooperation over Middle East

Tokyo, June 14 (Jiji Press)--Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday confirmed they will continue working closely over the Middle East.
In a 30-minute telephone conversation, Abe briefed Trump on his visit to Iran this week to ease tensions between the Middle East country and the United States.
After the phone talks, Abe told reporters, "I resolutely denounce the (tanker) attacks no matter who mounted them," referring to Thursday's attacks on two tankers, including one operated by a Japanese company, near the Strait of Hormuz.
Abe told Trump that he conveyed the U.S. president's message to the Iranian side.
The prime minister apparently told Trump how Iran responded, including supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's remark during his meeting with Abe on Thursday that the country will not make, possess or use any nuclear weapons.
