Japan Releases 3-Year Survival Rates for 4 Cancer Types

Tokyo, Aug. 8 (Jiji Press)--Japan's National Cancer Center released Thursday three-year survival rates for four cancer sites--kidneys, gallbladder, pharynx, and renal pelvis and ureter--among patients treated at care hospitals across the country.
The survival rate stood at 85.6 pct for kidney cancer, 33.4 pct for gallbladder cancer, 84.4 pct for pharyngeal cancer and 55.6 pct for renal pelvis and ureter cancer, the center said.
This was the first disclosure of three-year survival rates for patients with the four types of cancer, which are less common than other types of cancer.
The center calculated the survival rates based on information from some 550,000 people who were diagnosed with cancer at 349 core cancer hospitals in 2012.
The latest tally showed that those who were diagnosed with cancer at early stages have higher survival rates.
