Japan Core Machinery Orders Up 13.9 Pct in June

   Tokyo, Aug. 14 (Jiji Press)--Japan's seasonally adjusted core machinery orders in June rose 13.9 pct from the previous month, the Cabinet Office said Wednesday.
   Private-sector orders excluding those for ships and power equipment, closely watched as a leading indicator of corporate capital spending, came to 960.3 billion yen.
   The June result, which followed a 7.8 pct decrease in May, compared with the median estimate of a 1.3 pct decline by 18 economic research institutes surveyed by Jiji Press. Their estimates ranged from a fall of 5.5 pct to a rise of 6.0 pct.
   Core machinery orders in April-June expanded 7.5 pct from the previous quarter to 2,716.9 billion yen. In July-September, core orders are projected to drop 6.1 pct.
