Kitakyushu to Introduce Accommodation Tax in April 2020

Kitakyushu to Introduce Accommodation Tax in April 2020

Fukuoka, Aug. 16 (Jiji Press)--The southwestern Japan city of Kitakyushu agreed with the Fukuoka prefectural government on Friday to set its planned accommodation tax on people staying at hotels in the city at 200 yen per guest per night.
The city, the second-biggest city in the prefecture in terms of population, aims to introduce the levy in April 2020.
Of the tax amount, 150 yen will go to the city government and 50 yen to the prefectural government.
The tax will be set uniformly at 200 yen, regardless of the levels of accommodation fees, because the number of luxurious hotel rooms is limited in the city. The municipal government plans to submit a draft ordinance on the new tax to the city assembly next month.
Kitakyushu expects to earn revenue of 300 million yen a year from the tax.
