Shrine Set Up in Tokyo for 2019 Rugby World Cup

Shrine Set Up in Tokyo for 2019 Rugby World Cup

Tokyo, Aug. 20 (Jiji Press)--With one month to go until the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan, a makeshift shrine was established Tuesday in Tokyo in hopes of nurturing bonds among people through the sport.
At the Shinto shrine in the Marunouchi business district, its torii gate has an H shape like a rugby goalpost, while the bells and the "ema" wooden plaques on which worshippers write their prayers are oval-shaped.
The games will be hosted across Japan from Sept. 20 through Nov. 2.
The shrine was prepared by Mitsubishi Estate Co. <8802>, an official sponsor of the tournament, on the premises of the Marunouchi Building in front of Tokyo Station. The shrine will stand until November.
Enshrined is "Kantama no Mikoto," worshipped as a god of ball games at Sawatasha Shrine on the premises of Shimogamo Shrine in the western city of Kyoto, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
