Africa Conference to Promote Biz Investment-Led Growth

Tokyo, Aug. 21 (Jiji Press)--Participants at a Japan-led African development summit in Yokohama next week are expected to issue a declaration calling for boosting private-sector investment to promote growth in the region, the Japanese government said Wednesday.
The Yokohama declaration is scheduled to be adopted on Aug. 30, the final day of the three-day Seventh Tokyo International Conference on African Development, or TICAD VII, to be held in the Kanagawa prefectural capital, south of Tokyo.
An outline of the conference schedule released by the government also showed that Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will deliver a keynote speech before the start of the first-day session on infrastructure and manpower development.
Business representatives will join discussions on the second day on issues involving health, education, the environment and disaster prevention.
On the final day, participants will exchange opinions on peace and stability in Africa before adopting the declaration. Later the same day, Abe will meet the press to announce the outcome of the TICAD VII.
