Japan Household Spending Slows in July

Tokyo, Sept. 6 (Jiji Press)--The pace of growth in Japanese household spending slowed in July due to bad weather, the internal affairs ministry said Friday.
Spending by households with two or more members rose 0.8 pct from a year earlier to 288,026 yen on average in inflation-adjusted real terms.
The consumption expenditures marked the eighth straight month of increase but their pace of growth slowed from the 2.7 pct recorded in June.
Still, the ministry maintained its basic assessment that household spending is picking up.
There was no last-minute surge in demand ahead of a consumption tax increase from 8 pct to 10 pct in October, a ministry official said.
