Seko Likely to Be Appointed LDP Upper House Exec

Tokyo, Sept. 8 (Jiji Press)--Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is planning to appoint Hiroshige Seko, minister of economy, trade and industry, as secretary-general of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party in the House of Councillors, the upper chamber of parliament, informed sources said Sunday.
Abe, also LDP president, will make the appointment in the reshuffle of the cabinet and the LDP leadership team on Wednesday.
In line with the reshuffle, Abe is arranging the replacement of Cabinet Legislation Bureau Director-General Yusuke Yokobatake, according to the sources.
Abe held talks with Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Taro Aso on Sunday. They are believed to have exchanged views on personnel affairs and government management.
Seko, a close aide to Abe, took the current post in August 2016 after serving as deputy chief cabinet secretary. In the current post, he is concurrently minister for economic cooperation with Russia.
