Many Chiba Homes without Power, Water after Typhoon

Chiba, Sept. 10 (Jiji Press)--Many households remained without electricity and water in Chiba Prefecture, east of Tokyo, on Tuesday, one day after Typhoon Faxai, the 15th typhoon of the year, hit the region.
Some 550,000 homes were without power, while about 84,000 houses were without water, prefectural officials said. About 850 people were in shelter.
A hospital in Kimitsu has been unable to provide treatment to patients since losing electricity Monday morning, forcing 99 inpatients to be moved to another hospital in the city in a process completed Tuesday morning.
More than 600 nursery, elementary, junior high and high schools were out of session Tuesday due to the loss of electricity and water.
"Electricity and water are not available in wide areas. Unless they are restored, schools will remain closed. I'm concerned about how long things will remain the same," prefectural education chief Kazuhiro Sawakawa said.
