LDP's New Exec Team Launched Ahead of Cabinet Shake-Up

LDP's New Exec Team Launched Ahead of Cabinet Shake-Up

Tokyo, Sept. 11 (Jiji Press)--Japan's ruling Liberal Democratic Party launched a revamped leadership team Wednesday morning ahead of a cabinet shakeup in the afternoon.
"We must surely live up to the public mandate we won in the first national election of Japan's new era, Reiwa," or the House of Councillors election in July, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, also president of the LDP, said at the day's extraordinary meeting of the party's General Council, in which the new leadership team was appointed.
Toshihiro Nikai, 80, who was reappointed LDP secretary-general, told a press conference, "I want to move forward with the party's management by keeping in mind the theme of 'stability and challenge.'"
It is the first reshuffle of the LDP team since October last year.
Fumio Kishida, 62, was retained as chairman of the Policy Research Council.
