Kansai Elec Gives Ex-Takahama Official Special Treatment

Tokyo, Oct. 5 (Jiji Press)--Kansai Electric Power Co. <9503> gave special treatment to an influential former official of a nuclear plant host town by providing detailed information about construction work that would be ordered, informed sources have said.
Kansai Electric also generously treated Eiji Moriyama, the late former deputy mayor of Takahama in the central Japan prefecture of Fukui, holding cherry blossom-viewing and birthday parties for him that were attended by senior company officials, the sources said.
The town hosts the company's Takahama nuclear power plant.
Kansai Electric had an employee at its nuclear operation headquarters in Mihama, also Fukui, to serve as a liaison to Moriyama.
The company said late last month that 20 executives, including Chairman Makoto Yagi and President Shigeki Iwane, received money and goods worth 320 million yen from Moriyama, who died in March this year.
