Tokyo Facing Task of Livening Up Toyosu Market One Year On

Tokyo, Oct. 5 (Jiji Press)--Tokyo's metropolitan government faces the task of livening up its major wholesale food market in Toyosu almost a year after its relocation from Tsukiji.
Friday will mark the first anniversary of the Toyosu market, which opened after a two-year delay decided by Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike due to concerns about safety measures against contaminated soil at the Toyosu site.
At the site of the now-defunct Tsukiji market, work to remove facilities is progressing.
The place is close to the athletes' village and competition venues of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics. It will serve as a base for about 830 buses and 1,570 passenger vehicles to transport athletes and others between June and September that year.
After the games, the metropolitan government plans to build large-scale facilities to draw visitors, including an international conference centers. Details are yet to be worked out.
