Convertible for Japan Emperor's Enthronement Parade Unveiled

Tokyo, Oct. 7 (Jiji Press)--A convertible vehicle to be used for a parade related to Japan's Emperor Naruhito's enthronement proclamation on Oct. 22 was shown to reporters on Monday at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo.
The government spent some 80 million yen to revamp the Century vehicle of Toyota Motor Corp. <7203>. It was delivered to the Cabinet Office in September.
The "Shukuga-Onretsu-no-Gi" parade will start at 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 22.
Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako will ride for about 30 minutes from the Imperial Palace to their residence, the Akasaka Estate, on a route of about 4.6 kilometers.
The vehicle, 5.34 meters in length and 1.93 meters in width, is slightly bigger than the car used for the parade of Emperor Emeritus Akihito and Empress Emerita Michiko in 1990, after he ascended the throne in 1989.
