Japan's Current Account Surplus Up 18.3 Pct in Aug.

   Tokyo, Oct. 8 (Jiji Press)--Japan's current account surplus in August rose 18.3 pct from a year before to 2,157.7 billion yen, the Ministry of Finance said Tuesday.
   The result came against the median forecast of 2,069.5 billion yen in surplus among 18 economic research institutes surveyed by Jiji Press.
   Japan logged a goods and services trade surplus of 74.1 billion yen against the year-before deficit of 233.8 billion yen, the ministry said in a preliminary balance of payments report.
   In goods trade, Japan's surplus totaled 50.9 billion yen, against 255.6 billion yen in deficit. Exports were down 8.6 pct at 6,080.8 billion yen, and imports were down 12.7 pct at 6,029.9 billion yen.
   The surplus on the primary income account shrank 0.7 pct to 2,268.1 billion yen.
