Japan Falls to 6th in WEF Competitiveness Rankings in 2019

London, Oct. 9 (Jiji Press)--Japan fell to sixth from fifth in the World Economic Forum's global competitiveness rankings in 2019, mainly due to sluggish performance in education and working environments, a WEF report showed Wednesday.
Topping the list of the 141 economies in the Global Competitiveness Report this year was Singapore, which rose from second and replaced the United States.
Ranked second was the United States, followed by Hong Kong, which climbed from seventh. Among East Asian economies, South Korea was 13th and China 28th.
Japan was highly evaluated in business dynamism and innovation capability, ranking 17th and seventh, respectively.
The overall score, however, was weighed down by the poor performance in educational and labor fields.
