JR Tokai to Hold Last Maglev Test Rides before Suspension

   By Mana Fujioka
Tsuru, Yamanashi Pref., Oct. 11 (Jiji Press)--Central Japan Railway Co. <9022>, or JR Tokai, will hold final test rides on a magnetic levitation ultrahigh-speed train for the public next week, before such trips are suspended.
Offered three times a year since 2014, the public test rides will be halted as JR Tokai is replacing the current L0 Series superconductive maglev train model with a new one featuring lower air resistance.
As of the end of August this year, 115,000 people had experienced the maglev Shinkansen train at a test center in the central Japan city of Tsuru, Yamanashi Prefecture.
Ahead of the next public rides, slated for Tuesday and Wednesday, JR Tokai held a test ride for the press on Oct. 3, drawing more than 100 reporters and photographers.
