Japan Reaches Rugby World Cup Last Eight for 1st Time

   Yokohama, Oct. 13 (Jiji Press)--Japan advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2019 Rugby World Cup, edging Scotland in their final match of the group stage on Sunday.
   The Asian country clinched a quarterfinal berth in the Rugby World Cup for the first time since the quadrennial competition started in 1987.
   In the match, held at International Stadium Yokohama in the city of Yokohama, south of Tokyo, the host country defeated Scotland 28-21.
   In Pool A, the Japanese national team, nicknamed Brave Blossoms, won a total of 19 points, finishing top of the group.
   Japan is scheduled to face off against South Africa, which came second in Pool B, in a quarterfinal match at Tokyo Stadium on Oct. 20. In the previous World Cup in England in 2015, Japan won a historic victory over South Africa, at 34-32, in the group stage.
