(Update 2) Abe Tells Moon Wartime Labor Issue Has Been Resolved

Bangkok, Nov. 4 (Jiji Press)--Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe told South Korean President Moon Jae-in on Monday that the wartime labor issue between the two countries has been settled under a 1965 bilateral pact on property and claims.
Having brief talks with Moon in a Bangkok suburb, Abe also reiterated Tokyo's stance of aiming to resolve issues with Seoul through discussions between the two nations' diplomatic authorities.
He showed the positions at a time when Tokyo-Seoul relations have deteriorated substantially due to a host of difficult issues between them. The Abe-Moon dialogue was the first since they met in Papua New Guinea in November 2018 on the sidelines of an Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum summit.
During the latest dialogue, which lasted about 10 minutes, Abe and Moon had no specific talks on their possible additional meeting in the future, according to Japanese Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary Akihiro Nishimura, who is accompanying the prime minister on the trip to Thailand.
On Monday's dialogue, the South Korean presidential office said Moon and Abe expressed hopes that measures for Tokyo and Seoul to make substantive progress in their relations will be hammered out through ongoing official talks between high-level foreign ministry officials of the two countries.
