Abe Denies Intention to Seek 4th Term as LDP Head

Tokyo, Nov. 8 (Jiji Press)--Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has denied his intention to seek a fourth term as head of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party.
Asked if there is a possibility of him serving a fourth term in an interview with monthly magazine Bungei Shunju, Abe said no. The interview will appear in the magazine' new issue to be published on Saturday.
"What I need to do is to make all-out efforts to deliver results for the remaining two years" until the current third three-year term expires in September 2021, Abe said. In order to allow him to serve a fourth term, the LDP needs to revise its rules.
Abe refrained from giving the names of candidates he has in mind as his successor as LDP president. "It's too early yet," he said.
"The LDP has an overwhelming wealth of human resources," Abe said.
