People Voice Pleasure at Watching Imperial Parade

Tokyo, Nov. 10 (Jiji Press)--Well-wishers who flocked to central Tokyo on Sunday to watch a spectacular parade of Japanese Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako expressed their pleasure at witnessing history.
People from a broad range of age groups gathered along the procession route from the early morning. As the parade to celebrate the Emperor's enthronement earlier this year started at around 3 p.m. (6 a.m. GMT) in clear weather, they cheered, waving flags and taking pictures with smartphones.
Rie Hadano, a 36-year-old company worker from Tokyo, watched the parade in the front row near the Nijubashi Bridge of the Imperial Palace's Main Gate. "The smile of the Empress was very beautiful, with her tiara sparkling in the sunlight," Hadano said.
"It was worth a long wait," Aiko Suda, a 75-year-old housewife from Midori, Gunma Prefecture, eastern Japan, said. "I felt the era of Reiwa will be bright," she said, referring to the name of the Imperial era that began with Emperor Naruhito's ascension to the throne in May.
Near the Akasakamitsuke district, Hisae Imai, a 71-year-old housewife from Kawasaki, Kanagawa Prefecture, south of Tokyo, said she watched the parade wishing for a peaceful era after a series of natural disasters.
