Kitamura Nominated Head of Japan Govt Casino Management Board

Tokyo, Nov. 13 (Jiji Press)--The Japanese government on Wednesday nominated Michio Kitamura, former inspector general of legal compliance at the Defense Ministry, as head of a new government committee to screen and supervise operators of casino-featuring integrated resorts.
The nominations of Kitamura and 31 others for key posts at a total of 12 public-sector bodies were presented to both chambers of the Diet, Japan's parliament, the same day.
The government hopes to obtain Diet approval for the appointments during the ongoing Diet session, which will run through Dec. 9.
As members of the casino management panel, set to be established on Jan. 7 next year, the government nominated Hiroyuki Ujikane, former chief of the National Tax Agency's Nagoya Regional Taxation Bureau, psychiatrist Michiko Watari, Noriko Endo, specially appointed professor at the graduate school of Keio University, and Tateshi Higuchi, former superintendent general of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department.
Observers said major opposition parties including the Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan may resist the casino panel-related appointments.
