(Update) Ghosn Claims Innocence, Raps Japan's Judicial System

Beirut, Jan. 8 (Jiji Press)--Former Nissan Motor Co. <7201> Chairman Carlos Ghosn on Wednesday claimed his innocence on all charges made against him by Japanese prosecutors, criticizing the country's judicial system.
At a closely watched press conference in the Lebanese capital of Beirut, Ghosn, 65, said that the charges against him are "untrue" and "baseless," adding, "I should never have been arrested in the first place."
This is the first time for Ghosn to meet the press since his first arrest in November 2018 by the Tokyo District Public Prosecutors Office's special investigation team. "I'm here to clear my name," he said.
At the beginning of the press conference, Ghosn said he would not unveil how he left Japan for Lebanon. His escape came while he was on bail awaiting trial in Japan over a series of his alleged financial misconduct.
Ghosn said that five incumbent and former Nissan officials, including former President Hiroto Saikawa, were involved in his ouster from the major Japanese automaker. The other four named by Ghosn are Senior Vice President Hari Nada, outside director Masakazu Toyoda, who is a former Japanese industry ministry official, former Executive Vice President Hitoshi Kawaguchi and former auditor Hidetoshi Imazu.
