Firms Support Project to Feed, Educate Children in Japan

Tokyo, Jan. 10 (Jiji Press)--More and more companies in Japan are giving support for "kodomo shokudo," eateries that offer free or low-priced meals to children including those from poor families.
Companies are using their own strengths to support kodomo shokudo. Some provide food products as part of efforts to reduce food waste, while others give children opportunities to learn new things.
Kodomo shokudo, run mainly by local residents and nonprofit organizations to address child poverty and other issues, are regarded not only as places for children to eat but also safe places to go and study after school.
Whether companies can expand their support further will be key to the success of kodomo shokudo, which keeps increasing in number.
In early December 2019, Sony Corp. <6758> held a programming session at a kodomo shokudo eatery operated by NPO Terakoya Kodomo Shokudo Oji in Tokyo.
