Antique "Hina" Dolls from Western Japan Displayed in Tokyo

Tokyo, Jan. 24 (Jiji Press)--An annual exhibition of antique "hina" dolls started Friday at the wooden Hyakudan Kaidan exhibition hall in Tokyo, bringing together hundreds of dolls and ornaments mainly from three western Japan prefectures.
Dolls and ornaments from the three prefectures--Tottori, Shimane and Yamaguchi--and other places are displayed in seven rooms in the hall, a Tokyo metropolitan government-designated tangible cultural asset located within Hotel Gajoen Tokyo, a wedding hall-hotel complex previously called Meguro Gajoen, in the capital's Meguro Ward.
The 11th "Hyakudan Hinamatsuri" exhibition, the first in the Reiwa era, which started last May, features "jidaibina" dolls representing the six most recent Japanese eras--Edo, Meiji, Taisho, Showa, Heisei, and Reiwa.
A doll representing Reiwa is dressed in a reproduction of the attire worn by Emperor Naruhito during "Daijosai" enthronement-related grand thanksgiving rites held last November.
The exhibition will run through March 15, a period including the "hinamatsuri" Girls' Day festival on March 3. The organizer expects the event to attract some 60,000 visitors.
