(Update) System Glitch Hits JR Group Companies

Tokyo, Feb. 10 (Jiji Press)--A computer system failure occurred at the six Japan Railways Group passenger service firms, including East Japan Railway Co. <9020>, or JR East, on Monday.
The problem, which happened during the morning rush hour, is prevented credit cards from being accepted by ticket vending machines and machines at ticket reservation counters.
There are no issues with the use of cash for purchasing tickets or of transport-related electronic money cards, such as JR East's Suica, which also serve as commuter passes.
A glitch in the ticket sales system run by Railway Information Systems Co., or JR Systems, is believed to be behind the problem, according to JR East and others.
The affected JR companies other than JR East were Hokkaido Railway Co., or JR Hokkaido, Central Japan Railway Co. <9022>, or JR Tokai, West Japan Railway Co. <9021>, or JR West, Shikoku Railway Co., or JR Shikoku, and Kyushu Railway Co. <9142>, or JR Kyushu.
