Japan Producer Prices Up 1.7 Pct in Jan.

Tokyo, Feb. 13 (Jiji Press)--Producer prices in Japan rose 1.7 pct from a year earlier in January, up for the third straight month, reflecting rises in oil and precious metals markets, Bank of Japan data showed Thursday.
The producer price index stood at 102.5 for the month, against the 2015 average of 100.
Excluding the effects of the consumption tax hike last October, the index inched up 0.1 pct, the first rise in eight months.
By category, prices of oil and coal products were up 0.2 pct, on hopes for demand growth as U.S.-China trade talks were progressing, as well as supply concerns amid escalating tensions between Washington and Tehran.
Nonferrous metal prices were up 0.02 pct, reflecting the increased safe-haven appeal of gold and higher demand for rare metals used for cleaning car exhaust fumes.
