Top Tokyo Prosecutor Kurokawa Tenders Resignation

   Tokyo, May 21 (Jiji Press)--Hiromu Kurokawa, the embattled chief of the Tokyo High Public Prosecutors Office, on Thursday tendered his resignation, admitting gambling on mahjong during Japan's coronavirus state of emergency.
   The resignation of the 63-year-old superintending prosecutor will be approved at a cabinet meeting on Friday. He admitted that he played mahjong for money with employees of newspaper publishers on May 1 and 13.
   Justice Minister Masako Mori reprimanded Kurokawa and reported it to Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
   On Kurokawa's submission of his resignation, Abe told reporters: "As prime minister, I'm of course responsible for the matter. I sincerely accept criticism."
   Shukan Bunshun, a Japanese weekly magazine, reported in its edition that went on sale on Thursday that Kurokawa played mahjong as a betting game on the two days with newspaper comapny employees at the house in Tokyo of a reporter of the Sankei Shimbun major daily.
