Biz Groups Welcome Coronavirus Emergency Removal in Kansai

Tokyo, May 21 (Jiji Press)--The Japan Business Federation, or Keidanren, and other business groups welcomed Thursday the removal of the government's state-of-emergency declaration for Osaka, Hyogo and Kyoto prefectures in the Kansai region.
The end of the emergency over the novel coronavirus outbreak in the western Japan prefectures "is a step forward to normalizing people's daily lives and restarting economic activities," Keidanren Chairman Hiroaki Nakanishi said.
The declaration removal will "widen the range of economic activities," the Osaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry said in a statement.
Meanwhile, Nakanishi underscored the importance of the government making "flexible policy responses" to the coronavirus crisis including drawing up a second supplementary budget for the current fiscal year through next March.
"It'll take a long time for Japan to normalize its economy, considering the global spread of the virus," he said.
