(Update) 55 New Coronavirus Cases Confirmed in Tokyo

Tokyo, June 24 (Jiji Press)--Fifty-five cases of novel coronavirus infection were newly confirmed in Tokyo on Wednesday, sources said.
The daily count exceeded 50 for the first time since May 5 and came to the highest level after the Japanese government lifted a state of emergency for the country's capital on May 25.
Across Japan, a total of 66 people tested positive for the coronavirus on Wednesday.
In Otaru in the northernmost prefecture of Hokkaido, nine coronavirus infection cases involving a restaurant offering a daytime karaoke service were confirmed, leading the municipal government to conclude that a cluster of infections has occurred. This was the first cluster of novel coronavirus infection in the city.
Seven of the nine are customers of the restaurant. They are believed to be using the restaurant on a regular basis for karaoke group activities, according to the city. The other two are the owner of the facility and a relative of one of the customers.
