(Update) Prominent Japanese Fashion Designer Kansai Yamamoto Dies

   Tokyo, July 27 (Jiji Press)--World-renowned Japanese fashion designer Kansai Yamamoto has died, it was learned on Monday. He was 76.
   The death was announced by the management agency for Yamamoto's daughter, 45-year-old actress Mirai Yamamoto.
   The celebrated fashion designer had revealed in March that he was suffering from acute myelogenous leukemia.
   In 1971, Yamamoto became the first Japanese designer to hold a fashion show in London. He was acquainted with such popular music artists as David Bowie and Elton John.
   Yamamoto's avant-garde designs were popular among young people and featured in major collections overseas including in Paris and New York.
