(Update) Japan's Daily Coronavirus Tally Tops 1,000 for 1st Time

   Tokyo, July 29 (Jiji Press)--The daily number of new cases of the novel coronavirus came to a record 1,260 in Japan on Wednesday, the first-ever figure above 1,000 in the Asian country, surpassing the previous record of 981, set on Tuesday.
   The nationwide tally includes 221 new cases in Osaka Prefecture, 167 in Aichi Prefecture, 101 in Fukuoka Prefecture, 44 in Okinawa Prefecture, 30 in Gifu Prefecture and 10 in Mie Prefecture. All the prefectural figures renewed their respective record highs.
   In Osaka, nearly 70 pct of the 221 newly infected people are in their 30s or younger. "We seek cooperation from young people," Osaka Governor Hirofumi Yoshimura said.
   In the northeastern prefecture of Iwate on the day, two man in their 30s and 40s, respectively, were confirmed positive for the virus. Iwate had been the last remaining Japan prefecture with no coronavirus case.
   In Tokyo, 250 new coronavirus cases were reported, bringing the cumulative number of confirmed cases in the Japanese capital to 11,861. The daily count of new infections there exceeded 100 for the 21st consecutive day.
