Restrictions Spreading over Go To Travel Discounts

Restrictions Spreading over Go To Travel Discounts

Tokyo, Oct. 12 (Jiji Press)--Major travel-booking websites are restricting the application of discounts provided under the Japanese government's "Go To Travel" tourism promotion program due to concerns about fund shortages.
Many website operators are approaching the limits on the state subsidies made available to them to cover the costs of the discounts, following a surge in the number of Go To Travel users.
Their moves may put a drag on the tourism demand recovery.
The Japan Tourism Agency does not disclose the amount of subsidies made available to each company.
Additional funds will be given to improve the situation. But an influx of reservations may make some booking sites restrict the use of Go To Travel again even if such a measure is taken.
