Japan Aug. Core Machinery Orders Down 2.4 Pct

   Tokyo, Oct. 13 (Jiji Press)--Japan's seasonally adjusted core machinery orders in August fell 2.4 pct from the previous month, the Cabinet Office said Wednesday.
   Private-sector orders excluding those for ships and power equipment, closely watched as a leading indicator of corporate capital spending, came to 839.3 billion yen.
   The August result, which followed a 0.9 pct increase in July, compared with the median estimate of a 1.7 pct rise by 19 economic research institutes surveyed by Jiji Press. Their estimates ranged from a fall of 1.8 pct to a rise of 5.0 pct.
